Stomach botox is an endoscopic non-surgical obesity treatment. Boutlinum Toxin (botox) is injected into certain parts of the stomach. It delays gastric emptying by limiting the movements of the stomach muscles that affect appetite and hunger. This reduces the patient's appetite and facilitates weight loss. With an appropriate diet program after the procedure, it is aimed to lose 10%-15% of the weight of the patient in a 4-6 month period.

Advantages of Stomach Botox?

  • It is a non-surgical procedure. It is performed by endoscopic method. Therefore, pain that may occur during surgical procedures is not in question.
  • Weight loss of 10% -15% is possible in 4-6 months.
  • It has very few side effects.
  • After the procedure, the person can return to his / her daily life immediately.

Who can get it done?

People with a Body Mass Index below 40, who have previously tried to lose weight with diet and exercise, but have not been successful, who do not need surgery, can have a Stomach Botox.

Who can't?

  • Stomach botox cannot be administered to people with gastric disorders such as gastritis or ulcers. It can be applied after treatment of these diseases.
  • Stomach botox is not performed to people with muscle disease.
  • Stomach botox is not administered to people who may have allergic reactions to botox.
  • Stomach botox cannot be administered to people who have previously undergone obesity surgery, such as gastric sleeve and gastric bypass.

What is Body Mass Index?

Body mass index is a formula used in the calculation of obesity and excess weight. BMI does not measure body fat directly, but uses standard categories of weight status that can help doctors identify potential problems in patients.

BMI values determined by the World Health Organization:

  • 18.5 and under: Poor
  • From 18.5 to 24.9: Normal
  • 30 to 34.9: 1st degree obesity
  • 35 to 39.9: 2nd degree obesity
  • 40 and above: 3rd degree obesity (Morbid obese)

How is it done?

The patient is sedated before the procedure. In this way, endoscopy discomfort can be prevented. When the patient is under sedation, botox is injected by endoscopy to specific sites at the origin of the stomach. The application takes approximately 15-20 minutes. The patient can be discharged after resting for 1-2 hours.

Nutrition after procedure

As in all slimming attempts, postoperative diet and exercise are as important as Stomach Botox. The patient has to follow his / her diet.

It is important to eat frequently and less, eat foods that contain protein, and eat slowly and chewably. Patient-specific detailed information about nutrition is provided by the dietician.
