Tonsillectomy
Tonsils on both sides of the throat, the back of the tongue is the defense organ. It acts as a barrier and defense against microorganisms such as viruses and bacteria. Its appearance resembles to almonds and its texture, it has an oval shape. While tonsils are defensive, they may become inflamed and cause illness. Tonsillitis may lead to health problems such as heart rheumatism and kidney inflammation. In cases where tonsils are larger than normal, conditions such as sleep apnea may occur.
Tonsil surgery is an effective solution in cases where tonsils are large enough to prevent breathing and when tonsilitis occurs 3-4 times a year.
What are the symptoms of tonsillitis?
Sore throat, difficulty swallowing, weakness, fever, bad breath, swelling in the throat, changes in voice, nausea and vomiting in children are the prominent symptoms of tonsillitis.
Tonsillectomy
There is no age limit for tonsil surgery. The operation is performed under general anesthesia and takes about 20 minutes. No intra-oral surgery is performed and no sutures are used.
Thermal welding is a method of removing the tonsils without bleeding during the operation. The fact that the pain is low and the absence of sutures makes this surgery a preferred reason.
Post-operative
Duration of hospitalization varies between 5-10 hours. Children under 3 years of age are recommended to stay overnight. Soft foods should be preferred for 1 week postoperatively.
